[10x10 SHOW] Please pick up your works...or "so long, farewell"

It’s time to say adieu to the 2018 10x10 show. Thank you all for supporting the event and the Makers.
(Today Jonathan Smith asked for a picture of him standing next to his entry. First time anything he’d made had been put on display. He was so happy and proud! The lasered layered plywood scene of a southwest landscape, if you are wondering.)
In addition to this message, I am contacting the Makers by text and email.
(EDIT: engraved labels are yours to keep or throw away)

I have moved the wall-hung entries to cubbies in CA.

The art in the cases will remain there for pickup as they are either too fragile or too desirable.

The large foamboard-mounted sign continues to be the gift that keeps on giving to DMS. @Scott_Blevins is repurposing it as moldmaking material for the Resin SIG!

Your entry brought a nostalgic smile to my face. Grew up in a baseball family.

Completely agree. Had a blast participating in my first 10x10, and am looking forward to this Fall’s 10x10 event!

P.S., the new hanging system used for the electrified 10x10 submissions is amazing. We need more of this hanging system procured. It is a joy to mount artwork onto. Paging @PR

As ALWAYS the 10x10 show was awesome. We should have maker/made art all year round.

I think this is a great idea! New exhibit quarterly.

I agree on both counts: cheers to its consistent history of awesomeness and to the idea of more art. Just took down @BarkingChicken’s student art from her first ever acrylic pouring class.

@carpa: there have been attempts at regular shows. Has not worked out as hoped. Our Makers are so busy making their personal projects (yay!!) that stopping their flow to support multiple shows is not realistic. The 10x10 format is small (not time-consuming - unless you do it like me and invest wayyyy too much time) and recurring (meaning you can predict the restrictions and due date, so it can fit into your schedule - unless you do it like me and wait to the last minute).

Then an idea :bulb: hit…Instead of chasing shows and herding cats :cat:, why not turn to our classes? Our instructors have been offered the wall with the new hanging system and the cases.

Shay was the first to submit class art. She has a 2nd show ready to hang.

Shame to see it end without a replacement scheduled. It’s a great showcase of the talent and variety of skills and thought of the Space.

Thank you @heyheymama for making it happen and running it these 5+ months, and thanks to everyone that shared with us.

Ok, thanks, it was fun, will be up at the space this evening for a class, and can hopefully get into the glass cabinet in the front to get our stuff?

What time period? I can pop up to the Space, unlock cabinet and deliver to your class.

Thank you for the kind words. I too like the variety. Am ever amazed at what Makers come up with each year.
Alas, too hard/time-consuming to hang items on existing cleat system in long hallway.
Not wanting to put more holes in wall.
New easy-mount system is empty, ready for Shay’s 2nd show. Looks great from lobby, too.

Sweet! 6-10 ceramics and print making, I can bring James’s to him too, his is in the same cabinet.

Didn’t @BarkingChicken do another class last weekend? I was looking forward to seeing some new ones on the wall soon. (only partly because i was in that class and i want to see my pour. :stuck_out_tongue: )

This. So much this.
I keep hearing from students how proud they feel seeing their efforts on display.
If you are an instructor within the sound of my voice, pay attention ^^^. You can display in the lighted lobby cases (great for small, fragiles, and stuff that would look great with extra light) or the new hanging system.

Thank you so much for organizing this show! It was great to see the different projects and plot future classes to take.

Isn’t it great when you can see the results of a class or a particular tool?
Like the glass fusion, printmaking block + print, or embroidery machine entries?
More instructors should use the 10x10 format to advertise.

We’re working on getting those up! If you want to see it in the mean time they are in the Drawing/Painting cabinet in CA.
