10x10 2020 Questions

Dude she’s a great volunteer, has done a ton of work for DMS and is just an all around good person. I hope someday you realize how badly your actions look to everyone not in your group of 31 (and dropping).

Wait, so you are going to be active and lead the 10x10 contest?

OK, since all @Draco wants to do is post sweet potato level snowflake posts… Iet’s change direction.

  1. Do we have the 3/4" plywood sheets at DMS to make the 10 x 10 squares?
  2. How many squares did we use the last 2 years?
  3. @Team_Woodshop: Is there a member who could volunteer to cut the sheets into 10 x 10 squares?
(If not, perhaps our @team_volunteers could help organize that part)

We’ll need judges. Do we have any volunteers for judges?

I’ve never run a 10 x 10 contest, so if @uglyknees or someone else who has worked with the contest in the past can fill me in on the basics, I’ll run with it just for two reasons:

  1. It will be fun to see everyone get back into making.
  2. Maybe @Draco will finally let a thread end.

Go for it, Raymond!
2019 was organized by @JBluJkt and @Kevin.
2018 was organized by me.
and all the others prior (5 years?) were by none other than Nicole @uglyknees. Yay, Nicole!!!

2018 info:

  • 55 entries.
  • 5/8" baltic birch (3/4" is overkill and baltic birch is better for craftsmanship). @bertberaht was the plywood wrangler and I am in his debt. I believe he found a source on Craigslist at $25 per sheet. See 10x10 show, annual open house? - #9 by bertberaht
  • The contest was a new twist for 2018 only. Please don’t feel pressure to make it a tradition. We had no criteria and any member could vote in favor of the pieces that moved them the most. Basically a “Best in Show”.

Whatever you choose: make your own imprint. Each organizer has brought their own flavor to the event. Nicole gave me that advice and it made all the difference.

what if we didnt make it a contest? why do we have to judge peoples art and creations?

What if we made it a fund drive for the Maker Fellowship Fund by either a silent auction or putting the entries up on eBay?

I will cut sheets of plywood however you’d like.

Thank you!

@PearceDunlap do we have the plywood on hand or will it need to be procured?

I can send you over the (old) file I stapled to the back of the pieces we gave out. If you like it you could adapt it if you don’t like it you could trash it.

Stephanies team organized it really well. I was more pirate with my approach. And the last team went straight hippie love with it. All approaches work.

Please send!

I’m a techie at heart so perhaps it could be a “tech 10 x 10” where you show off some technical skills like a specific technique in working with various art mediums (oil, water, acrylic, epoxies, etc…) Sewing / pattern / color mixing creative arts style, etc…

Where is it? I’ll get it cut this week.

@Raymond what dimension do you want? 11x11 seems like a good size. /s

Clearly it’s 10cm x 10cm

Unfortunately the table saw doesn’t cut in metric. We will have to wait to order a new one from Europe.

I still need to make a drawbot 10x10, if we keep the USB drops in the hall. A continual 10x10 display is great.

@PearceDunlap is right. We should just make. No contest just make… but in by due date

That drop could use a bit more voltage/amps from the source. It didn’t like how many LEDs we had plugged into it
