[RESOLVED] Laser Still Down - Repairs Ongoing

The Full Spectrum Laser started arcing earlier tonight. Repairs are in progress; but, the silicone must cure for at least 24 hours.

Do NOT power the laser on at all until further notice for any reason.

Thank you,

Lisa

The silicone has cured however additional sources of arcing were found at the AC input connector and the RCBO (residual current breaker / overload protector).

The AC input connector has completely failed and can no longer safely deliver power. Additionally, overheated connections were discovered on the load side of the RCBO

The original connector is rated for just 6.3A, the laser can draw twice this. We must upgrade this for safe operation.

The load side wires connecting to the RCBO were tinned but the terminals on the RCBO are designed for plain stranded wire. The neutral conductor had become dangerously loose and was badly overheated.

Sometime soon, the entire AC side of the unit needs to be given a thorough inspection and I hope to be able to do so after exams. I may find additional design flaws that should be fixed to ensure it doesn’t break in this manner again.
