Plate mail is not as encumbering as people like to think.

I’ve heard Adam Savage comment a few times that it’s not as bad as people tend to think because of how well distributed and tightly strapped to the body it is. I can attest to a mail shirt being significantly more encumbering when you leave off the belt and the whole thing just hangs off your shoulders.
