PlasmaCam class was awesome

Wow ~ the class on December 8th is FULL already! (https://calendar.dallasmakerspace.org/events/view/1131)…

BUT, it looks like there are still some spaces left for the class on November 22nd! (https://calendar.dallasmakerspace.org/events/view/1138)…

BTW ~ for those who may not realize it, you can filter the calendar results to check on upcoming classes for specific tools, etc… To find the two links above, I filtered it to only show classes for the Plasma Cutter (https://calendar.dallasmakerspace.org/?tool=27)

This may not be a question for this topic, but it is a materials question. Is it appropriate/possible to raise the head enough to cut stuff out of the side of square tube on the Plasma Cam?

I don’t think we have the height that would be required for that. Someone also asked if we could do pipe, PlasmaCam makes a setup to do pipe/tube but we do not have that capability at this moment in time.

Thanks, I got some square tube on the free shelf, I can turn it into plate with some cuttoff saw work at the house though  Thanks for quick reply.

Just submitted the next class for PlasmaCam. It’s should be on the calendar in the next 72hrs ish. Class will be Dec 5th @7.

BTW, read a great article on the emission spectra of plasma cutters.

http://www.esabna.com/us/en/education/blog/what-eye-protection-is-required-for-cnc-plasma-cutting.cfm

So, I ordered a set of blue-blocking shades, and we’ll see how they do.

Good find on that. Convincing article. The spectral analysis chart really brought it home for me.

when will the next plasma cam training class be held

Monday, December 5th.

I took the class last evening with @TBJK as the instructor. His presentation materials were very good, his instruction was excellent and the hands on instruction was very much appreciated. There is, of course, much more that the CNC Plasma cuttter can do, but but I was really impressed with the little key chain we all got to cut. Admittedly, it is a little intimidating to be in the “operator” seat while everyone is looking on, but we all had a great time and Tim was most helpful. Like he said, “We’re all learning.”

DMS is very fortunate to have such a nice piece of equipment. Let’s all work to take care of it. I know Tim has put in many long hours of work on it. Thanks again Tim for the class and for your dedication to DMS.

Now what can I design that needs to be cut on the Plasma Cutter? Maybe some knife blanks

I just updated the training slide deck for the PlasmaCam on the Wiki. This shows more on reference points & how to add a break in your cut.

Also added to the Committee drive.

Your class was awesome. Thanks again for all that you do for DMS and especially the metal shop!

Thank you Tim for teaching such a useful class!

Took the PlasmaCAM class yesterday! I agree … It was an awesome class. Everyone was able to setup the machine and cutout a DMS keychain! Tim (@TBJK) did a great job! Thank you Tim!

Certainly not a problem. I enjoy giving the class.

If someone else would check the Wiki to see if the documentation comes up ok, it would be awesome. I have checked it from my phone with no issues. I was told in yesterday’s class that there was an issue with it loading more than a couple pages.

It comes up with the entire 44 page presentation. It took a couple moments, but no problems.
