Metal Shop Maintenance Day. (7-15-17)

It’s too far out for me to commit fully, but I’d love to help and will be there if I can.

Same here, will try.

Reminder that the work day is July 15th, so 1 week from Saturday.

Will there be cake?

The cake is a lie… Also I will help out however I can.

I didn’t get a chance to talk to Chuck more about it today. But I would like to somewhat re-arrange the shop a little. Mount the grinders on the back concrete wall. Get rid of the the large stand they are currently on to make room for another welding table. We will likely need to kinda move things around a little bit to do this.

What kind of Cake? :blankspace:

So far this is the list of stuff that needs to get done:

Eat cake: Coffee (being as how this is at 9AM).

Assemble the shelves, populate with storage boxes, Sanding Supplies, Parts Cabinet.

Clean out the Plasma Cutter, and clean off the bed.

Move welders to the adjacent wall.

Rearrange the grinders. Decide what we need to keep and what to get rid of.

Clean out the cutoff wheel enclosure.

Maintenance on the Disk Sander, and Belt Sander.

Seal up the Sand Blaster.

Make a rack for the new welding helmets.

Install Libre Office and Inkscape on the PlasmaCam computer.

Dispose of most of the scrap in the Scrap Bin. Do we even want a Scrap Bin?

Moving stuff around: As required for new equipment including anvil and hammers for forging.

Induction Furnace needs a water pump hooked up.

New lights.

What else do we need?

I took the liberty of creating a calendar event to show the maintenance day - with all equipment being unavailable.

@Adam_Oas can we get the 5 gallon cooler out for tomorrow? I will get some Gatorade for tomorrow to put in it.

Does anyone want to haul the scrap steel from the bin to the recycler? We really want to empty it and get rid of the bin. If no one can transport it it we will have to throw it in the dumpster.

The scrap is useful for practicing plasmacam and welding. But I rwlize there are other considerations and the bin is currently overflowing. I am unavailable today, but going forward I would volunteer to maintain the scrap bin at least once a week. Where is the recycler?

I’ll be up there at some point with my small pickup if that helps. Not sure where the recycler is or what we need to haul.

Concur, particularly for welding. Would rather we downsized the scrap bin and made it clear not to throw just any old crap in there but it’s chairmans discretion of course.

Bump to the top top top

Would also like to keep scrap bin, but as I have as of yesterday developed inability to be there today, and have not been able to make good on past resolutions to help keep it useful, my opinion is weightless. The need for space is great, and it’s hard to justify wasting those ft^2…

If someone is going to the recycler, there is apparently a pair (?) of old brake rotors on the freebie/exchange shelf. The person who left them there thought they would be a usable chunk of metal but since no one else thinks so, they could go to the recycler.

I agree, I’m not able to make it today, but I would be willing to cut the scrap bin in half and piece it back to together if 50% of the scrap bin area would be more practical.

Since today is the actual day of the Maintenance, I recommend voicing your opinion in person as it’s doubtful anyone will be checking talk.

I’m not that concerned about it.
