Looking for advice on smt board for a class

I am looking to make a board for smt component so we can have a class on smt soldering. Question one: does anyone else want a class on smt soldering? Question two: what type of project board?. example smt led 3d cube. Question three: what is a decent schematic layout program for students that would have a library for the smt components?

We had the first SMD class, and the six who registered signed up, and we had one walk in plus a training for a future teacher of the class. Everyone walked away with working DMS blinky badges! Definitely interested in a smt soldering class. Don’t really have a good recommendation for the type of board, but a 3D led cube would be cool.

Really interested in the next blinky badge class as well.

I’ve been thinking up ways to build a 3D blinky cube. With NeoPixels being cheaply available now, I was trying to think of a way to make a 3d cube. I have some surface mount neopixels I got to experiment with, but right now I don’t know how to use them.

I was thinking something like this. But they charge $400 for the 8x8 version.

But, I would have arranged them horizontally with lenses on them. Like these.

And I’m interested in learning to cut and etch PCB and surface mount these suckers.
