Has anyone tried Yorkshire Grit? (wood polish)

I keep seeing a lot of wood turners on YouTube being sponsored by Yorkshire grit and thought, ok why not give it a try. But yeah, not for $30. I wanted to see if anyone has tried it or has any feedback.

I literally just spent my lunch hour researching what it is made of and in what proportions (and I have a really good idea now), but there’s not enough data out there. Americans seem to use polishing grits in woodworking differently. I might try and just make some but it would be super helpful if I could try the original before I reverse engineer it.

I would be willing to throw $5 or $10 in to give it a try if there is interest in splitting up the cost.

I like the cut of your Jib. Anyone else maybe want to split a container of original Yorkshire Grit so I can reverse engineer it?

Edit- I’d be happy to share the recipe once completed.

Never mind, @nate found it for me! I’ll cook some up soon and report back.

Remember that the ratio is by weight. Ounces in freedom units is confusingly both a weight and volume measure.

I thought I was the only person who called 'em freedom units.

I want to know where you’re going to get the 8 ounces of Beeswax. That seems to be something people have been searching for lately and it seems to be hard to find.

(EDIT: Sorry. That came across snarky. What I really meant is - please share your Beeswax source. It’s hard to find.)

You can get it at Whole Foods and Treehouse (the expensive home store) too.

Yep, generally any time you have a mix of liquid and solids in a formula the default is weight. Thanks for chiming in as anyone else who might want to make this may not have known.

@John_Marlow- Nate beat me to it, but that’s where I get mine, and I generally make sure to get cosmetic grade since I make a lot of hand salve. if you want to get it in slightly larger volumes this place is good as well- https://www.bulkapothecary.com/product/raw-ingredients/waxes-and-butters/beeswax-white-and-yellow/

Don’t get @Photomancer started, he will gladly point out we used Freedom Units to vacation on the moon and drive a little buggy around.

Also, somewhat related, thought I would share as this may be useful to most here.

The chart has stars and dots. What is the significance of each?

I wondered that myself, I got it from the link below and it didn’t say. My guess is that those are the items that it would be a “best use”.

A timely polite explanation from PJ Tool & Supply…

The dots are showing that these are still compatible and the stars would have the best results.
More than one compound can be used on metal so the chart shows all the available options.
