[Discussion] Vintage Computer Discussion

Great idea having this on a board meeting agenda. If we are going to have a small space, it should be very well designated (I’m sure I could make a nice sign or something if needed).

I think we should use the crappy LCD’s that are still left in the common room with composite to VGA adapters because having CRT’s takes up most of the space of the old PC’s.

I think a miniature version of what they have at the National Videogame Museum in Frisco has.

Nice selection. Don’t forget the usenet groups:

It is going to need at least four more people to add their name to the wiki committee page before it can be considered…

Agreed and that’s most of the hardware I’ve been working on getting setup. Along with devising a kvm style setup where a user can flip a switch to see the output from different computers. I already have most of that sitting at home already just need the workout the for the sinclairs.

hmm… member drive any one? Thoughts, suggestions?

A minimum of two more members are needed to join in order to qualify.

I don’t think that it is a composite to VGA … I think it is a VGA to composite adapter … but one can buy one

I joined … So one more member

yeah that’s what I keep running into when ordering them. Usually end up with ones that split dsub vga into both signals while everything else I’ve found was either kits or schematics for modding individual computers.

Any suggestion on where one can find a “universal” unit to buy?

I added my name to the wiki.

I’d also like to propose my Input device interest group (https://dallasmakerspace.org/wiki/Input_Device_Interest_Group) be under this Vintage Computer committee space. I have a IBM model M I could put on loan as long as it doesn’t wander off.

Love it and second the motion!!

How do the members vote?

I concur, bu an original IBM Model M keyboard is quite desirable and valuable. It would probably walk off… If the board approves the committee, I strongly suggest requesting a camera be installed to watch the shelves…

I would like to have one that supports many different inputs. I hope we get some from Europe too like the BBC Micro. Here is a discussion on reddit about the subject.

Speaking of the Model M keyboard … This company bought the rights to produce them again in USB form.

I purchased one of those. It doesn’t have quite the same feel…

How about this one

We could use an HDMI to DVI adapter which are cheap to get for normal monitors.

Also here is a way to make a Commodore 64 S-Video cable.

For the Atari 800 XL

I’m certain there are others …

Thanks mitch! We’re glad to have you a member. Looks like @LisaSelk also joined so we have the minimum numbers to go before the board.

Ok I think if I can get some acrylic and LED strips I’ll make an edge-lit sign. I’ll find some good fonts and play with Inkscape.

I don’t think that wireshelf is that good, maybe we need a custom build display case or soemthing.

Quality may degrade from the hdmi to vga/dvi but that’s more than fitting to get something started.

May even work with the switch we already have

agreed. Do you have any ideas?

As I do belive the board would complain if we try to get this style of desk in that space.
