Autonomous Robot Contest - RoboRama Fall 2018

FYI - the Dallas Personal Robotics Group indoor fall contests are at the regular monthly meeting time this coming Saturday 10 November, noon ~ 4pm, in the DMS interactive classroom.

Free to the public, this is a great chance to check out a wide variety of robot creations in action, and chat with an experienced bunch of robot builders who meet at DMS each Tuesday night and most second Saturdays…

This time, we’ll run several contests for glory AND prizes:

  • 6-Can
  • Challenge Line Following
  • Advanced Line Following
  • Novice Line Following

Last minute / walk-in entries are welcome!

Wow, lots of advance notice… :sarcasm:

Well earned - - sorry about that…

This one has been well known within the DPRG club. But it was recently brought to our attention that we should be doing more outreach w/in DMS - especially here on talk. And apparently, we should be working harder to publicize earlier. (note to selves for the January DPRG planning cycle).

In any case, people often enjoy swinging by to observe the madness and chat about our crazy projects and related stuff.

This year, a number of us have taken on Computer Vision based line following robots. We’re happy to talk about our several quite different approaches.

Plus, we hold indoor contests every spring and fall. So this is a good chance to see our latest best efforts all in the same place at the same time, and decide if you’d like to jump in for the next cycle…

FWIW - These same contests or ones like them are expected to come around again in the Spring RoboRama…

Additionally - we’re also planning to collaborate next year with Hackster.io / DFW and host a series of sessions for Donkey Car build & race. That will be based on an open source software project to train neural nets for autonomous driving, and apply them to the kinds of robots we run in DPRG - e.g. smaller indoor things with differential drive, or indoor/outdoor things based on R/C car chassis. There’s a teaser print-out about that initiative posted on the bulletin board near the water fountain at the DMS entrance…

So please accept our apologies, and do swing by if you’re interested!
